Head Start

From its inception, Learning Starts Early has supported the Fauquier County’s Head Start program. Fauquier Community Action Head Start is a federally funded preschool program for income-eligible children, ages 3 to 5 years old who reside in Fauquier County.

LSE coordinates volunteers who read weekly to children at Head Start centers throughout the county. LSE’s Reading Buddies program, which began in 2016, provides readers for Head Start classrooms at Central Complex Building C, Mary Walter Elementary School, and H. M. Pearson Elementary School.  The children look forward to having the Reading Buddies come to their classrooms and many request favorite books be reread again and again.

Proceeds from LSE’s annual Gobble, Gobble, Run, Walk or Wobble 5k race have been used to purchase easels and books for all Head Start locations and a digital white board for the Central Complex classrooms. LSE also received a grant from the PATH Foundation to provide the children one-man band performances by noted music educator Peter McCory.
