As we near the end of the first month of 2022, we are still reflecting on accomplishments made in 2021. Here are a few memorable moments from Fall 2021:
- LSE was represented by board member Eileen Burgwyn at the November 2020 Fauquier Preschool Coalition Zoom meeting. She and former board member Kristen McAuliffe also participated at the Grace Miller Elementary's distribution site.
- Fauquier FRESH and LSE partnered for a summer preschool program called "Play with a Purpose." The program guides parents in purposeful play with their preschoolers and provides funding for an FCPS staff member to plan lessons, demonstrate activity kits and work with preschool children.
- Pamela Northam, Virginia's former First Lady, celebrated the Books on the Bus program and LSE's role in its development. - Books and materials were provided for Storytimes to go preschool resources for parents and educators through our partnership with Fauquier County. Story Times To Go include three or four preschool picture books with themes ranging from bugs to zoos. Each kit has an activity sheet that encourages finger plays, rhymes, etc. The kits aim to bring the storytime experience into a preschooler’s environment, wherever that may be. Our partnership has also permitted the continued refresh of classroom libraries for Head Start classrooms.
-The 7th annual Gobble, Gobble, Run, or Wobble 5K race event occurred on November 20th, 2021. There were a total of 387 participants in this year's race, along with countless volunteers and supporters. The funds raised for Learning Starts Early, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, will be used to support preschool education throughout Fauquier County.
We look forward to continuing our partnerships this year in support of providing every opportunity we can grant to our communities children so they may succeed in school and in the workforce.
